Over the weekend Jett and I took a road trip to SLC for my cousin Chelsea's wedding. We had a great time visiting with family and getting a break from life for a few days. On Saturday Jett felt a little warm and he has been teething for a few weeks now so I just wrote it off to be teething and did not think much of it. Sunday morning at 1AM we settled down for bed after visiting with my family and Jett woke up crying and fussing which is very abnormal for him so I cuddled him with a bottle and he went to sleep. The next morning he woke up with a real barky cough and running a fever. I did not have any medicine with us so we hit the road for home planning to stop somewhere along the way to get some Motrin. He slept the entire way home and hardly wanted anything to eat. We got home and he was still running a fever so we decided Brandon would stay up at night with him and stay home with him Monday so I could go to work and school. He hardly slept all night and Brandon was a trooper cuddling and wrestling him to make sure he was comfortable.
After all the up all night I thought Brandon could use a break so I got up at 4AM to take Jett so Brandon could sleep for a few hours before I went to work at 6AM. I walked in the living room and immediately did not like what I saw. Jett was working so hard to breathe his poor little chest and sides were caving in just to get a breath. So no wonder why he was not sleeping. He was running a temperature of 102 so I decided to call the doc on call. The doctor called right back and said to take him to the ER. So off we went at about 5:30AM. I drove 80 the whole way while Brandon sat in the back to make sure Jett kept breathing. We found a secret to getting right in at the ER. You just tell them you have an infant that is having difficulty breathing and you are taken back and you see a doctor just a few minutes later.
They found nothing was in his lungs but that it was in his throat. He has croop. I thought croop was just some wivestale you hear about that happened to babies many moons ago, but I stand corrected that croop is alive and well today in my little baby boy. Jett had to get a steroid shot to shrink the swelling in his throat and we had to get a few breathing treatments to make sure his airway was open enough to send us home. He was a real trooper and did not fight or hardly even cried through the whole ordeal. Brandon stayed home with him again today because he is still not 100%. His fever has broke but he is not able to keep food down so now we are worried he is getting dehydrated. So far he has kept down his dinner and is acting a little better, but if he is not 100% by 6AM it will be my turn to stay home with so Brandon can go to work.

How scary! I hope he gets all the way better soon!!!
I hope he gets better, sick kids are no fun. Jaxt got croop when he was about a year old and unfortunatly once they get it they are more prone to getting it so needless to say he gets it at least once a year. The up side is that the cough is unmistakable so next time you can get him in right away and it's not so bad.
Wow, you are a trooper! Full time mom, going to school, and working. I don't know how you do it. Hope Jett feels better soon!
Poor little guy. I'm glad it was nothing more serious. The picture of them crashed after getting home totally reminds me of Ezra after surgery. Drugged and tired. I hope you all get more rest. That is really important. We love you and can't wait to share our hospital stories in person.
im so sorry! that is not any fun at all. i hope he is doing much better and you guys can all get some much needed sleep, soon!
Oh how scary...I would have panicked at the hard to breath thing. You really are amazing juggling school, work and kids. Let alone sick kids. I think this is just the beginning of the cold and flu season. Hopefully Jett gets better soon.
I'm so glad he is doing better. How scary is that to see your baby struggling to breath?
Can I just say your little man is so cute!
